Beautiful and Fascinating Belize

Central America plays host to tourist at its many Caribbean
destinations. One such lesser known destination is Belize,
located near Mexico and Guatemala. It is a peaceful &
beautiful place with the Caribbean Sea right at its
doorstep. Belize is primarily Creole and its people friendly
and welcoming. This very factor makes it different and
better than other Caribbean destinations which are not so
welcoming.

Belize is a lazy, relaxed, laid back place where wrist
watches almost have no meaning. Many westerners find it hard
to adjust to this after their hectic city lifestyle. Another
feather in Belize's cap is that it is an English speaking
place making one and all feel comfortable.

One thing to be aware of is that Belize is one of the more
expensive places to visit in Central America. However, in
comparison to many destination spots, you can still lodge
and play here even if you are confined to a budget.
Accommodations run the gamut from luxury resorts, to
hostels, and inexpensive hotels.

If you enjoy the outdoors, Belize is a wonderful getaway.
There are many protected natural habitats here, such as
coral reefs and rainforests. There are hundreds of species
of fish and mammals; this is a naturist's paradise. For
those interested in archeology, Belize highlights many Mayan
ruins that make great day trips. You can find many great
tours that will take you to the ruins and give you detailed
explanations of what they were used for and the rich history
behind them.

Lamanai is a Mayan site that is a must see. It consists of
60 or so structures that were inhabited from 1500 BC until
the Spanish arrived. To reach this site you must take a 90
minute boat trip where you can see plenty of species of
birds along with crocodiles. Xunantunich is another
archaeological site that holds much history and is a
fascinating area.

You can indulge in snorkelling or scuba diving at the Belize
Reef and the Cayes, which is the longest reef in Western
Hemisphere. Belize's underwater world displays a very
colourful reef and showcases many beautiful examples of
marine life such as tropical fish.

You will wear shorts, t-shirts, and bathing suits year
round in Belize, especially during the summer months. Pack
a sweater or two as the evenings cool off in the winter. In
general though, the climate is hot and humid, like most
tropical areas.

Most Central American cities as well as several
international airports in the United States connect to
Belize City. The best months for your visit are November to
May or June. Hurricanes tend to strike from July to
November, so you may want to avoid traveling to Belize
during those months. Remember too, that the most heat and
humidity occur during the summer months. If you plan to
study some archeology, you most likely would find the
temperatures hard to stand tolerate.

Belize is a beautiful little country with plenty to see and
do. It's perfect for people who are interested in not only
lying on a breathtaking beach, but experiencing a rich
underwater sea world, and the history of the area's original
inhabitants as well.
